New Futures Awardee: Patrick Chuka
Art should never be elite.
The New Futures program is part of our continued mission to break down traditional barriers of the contemporary art world by giving prizing to talented, often underrepresented, emerging artists. Each recipient is given free exhibition space at The Other Art Fair along with access to networks and opportunities designed to jump-start their careers.
Patrick Chuka (b. 2000, Lagos, Nigeria) is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and cultural thinker whose work explores the intersection of African heritage, global identity, and the shared language of humanity. Working primarily in pen and pencil, Chuka creates lifelike portraits that center beauty, spirit, and emotion—offering a counter-narrative to dominant visual histories.
Rooted in a deep connection to his Nigerian origins, yet shaped by global travels and philosophical inquiry, Chuka’s practice reflects a continuous evolution. His art is not only a reflection of self but a vessel for reimagining culture, compassion, and consciousness. Through his art series, he fuses tradition with futurism, challenging viewers to see the sacred in the contemporary and the universal in the intimate.
Now based in the Texas, U.S., Chuka also writes, curates, and builds transformative experiences across digital, physical, and immersive platforms—blurring the lines between art, activism, and storytelling.
