AN ART EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANY OTHER

Experiences for you to discover and immerse yourself in.

REWIND: NOSTALGIA CORE

This Spring, The Other Art Fair is hitting “rewind.” We’re bringing the Nostalgia Core aesthetic to life with a curated selection of interactive, artist-led projects that celebrate the best of the past.

From the tactile hum of retro tech to the kitschy charm of childhood memories, get ready to do more than just “look” at art. Touch, play, and rediscover the analog hobbies and vintage designs that shaped us. It’s not just an art fair; it’s a trip down memory lane you can actually participate in.

Explore our multitude of interactive and complimentary installations and activities onsite all weekend long!

BADSICLE: IMPERFECT REALITY

Badsicle [bad-si-kuhl] is a whimsical sculptural installation that explores the moment when childhood expectations melt into reality. As a child choosing a cartoon popsicle from the side of an ice cream truck, you anticipate perfection. Those expectations are often shattered the moment the package opens and the popsicle looks nothing like what you imagined.

This immersive installation features six oversized character popsicle sculptures where imperfection becomes a deliberate artistic choice. Eyes may be misplaced, mouths off-centre, melting colors, and forms intentionally distorted. By exaggerating these familiar imperfections, Badsicle transforms a shared childhood disappointment into a playful and nostalgic artistic experience.

Visitors are invited to move through the installation, explore the sculptures from different angles, and capture playful photos alongside the works, turning a simple childhood memory into a shared social moment.

Noble Signs – Bar Installation

Noble Signs will dress the bar onsite at the Fair for our Spring edition bringing taters from the vast collection of signs preserved at the The New York Sign Museum. This installation promises to transport us back to times-gone-by capturing the essence of signwriting and sign construction onsite for all visitors to immerse themselves in.

The New York Sign Museum preserves and studies New York City’s signage and visual culture, treating it as a shared public resource. The entire museum’s collection tells a story about New York City’s distinct visual vernacular, bringing to light the issues facing our city and changing the look of our neighborhoods. We envision a city where the signage of our neighborhoods is recognized as a shared cultural inheritance and protected as part of New York City’s living history. The project was created by Noble Signs, a design and build studio in East New York focused on keeping classic signage techniques from New York City alive.

The Souvenir Shop: Stefanie Haining

Stefanie Haining’s sculptural practice centers on the objects we keep close—souvenirs, toys, vessels, and everyday keepsakes that carry memory, attachment, and emotional weight. Working in ceramic, she handbuilds forms that feel familiar, playful, and at times gently humorous, while exploring how these objects shape identity, personal mythology, and a sense of self.

Inspired by her series of ceramic souvenir snow globes, a section of the booth is transformed into  The Souvenir Shop—an interactive extension of her work. Visitors are invited to reflect on a personal memory, meaningful object, or formative moment and draw it onto a die-cut snow globe card.

Each drawing is added to the shop wall, gradually forming a collective installation of memory-filled snow globes. Over the course of the fair, the space evolves into a growing portrait of shared nostalgia and lived experience, connecting individual stories through a common visual language.

Haining’s ceramic sculptures are displayed alongside the installation, creating a dialogue between the artist’s interpretations of memory and those contributed by visitors.

At the close of the fair, one submitted drawing will be selected at random and transformed into a one-of-a-kind ceramic snow globe by the artist, gifted to the participant whose memory inspired it.

Millennial Mandala: Jake Wright

Think you’ve seen it all, think again. In this uniquely, nostalgic throwback artwork, Millennial Mandala combines sprite graphics from classic video games with clips uploaded by popular streamers, assembled in the form of a mandala.

Mandalas are devotional objects present in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Shinto traditions that present sacred figures in a geometric hierarchy to focus meditation. Millennial Mandala similarly provokes introspection through reminiscence, particularly for Millennial and Gen-X viewers who grew up alongside the video game industry. The colorful, dynamic action of the game characters is in contrast to the professional gamers’ stoic expressions and “idle” animations, relating to the sometimes koan-like nature of streaming as a form of entertainment: solitary observation of a solitary player, conducted one-way, from a distance, and largely in silence.

Little Miss Wishing Well: Hannah Cooper

Step into the world of Hannah Cooper. A memory reimagined, a time to reflect, this interactive feature pairs ceramics with water to form a handcrafted fountain sculpture. Entering the space, attendees will have the chance to make a wish on a coin and throw it into the fountain—to take a moment to pause and consider themselves, their body, feelings, and desires, and to put that out into the universe.

Hannah’s work will also be for sale across the weekend.

Marge Rendell: Stars & Dots Fall (Niagara Falls)

Bringing Nostalgia Core front and centre, Marge Rendell, New York City- based artist presents Stars & Dots Fall (Niagara Falls) a piece exploring dots, symbols, and impermanence. She works in painting and an object-based practice, experimenting with CMYK dot patterns and epoxy-encased saltine crackers to examine how small, fragile units can convey complex meaning.
