As part of The Other Art Fair’s continued mission to break down traditional barriers of the contemporary art world, New Futures is designed to launch the careers of talented emerging artists and curators by giving them the opportunity to showcase and sell their work to a global audience of collectors and art industry professionals.

New Futures: Sydney is excited to present four magnificent artists who will exhibit independently at this December 2021 edition of The Other Art Fair Sydney.

Beatrice Buckland-Willis

As a young artist experiencing chronic pain issues, Buckland-Willis is concerned with the representation of female pain and subverting ideas of the ‘normal vs. abnormal’ body. Regularly playing with satire and parody, she wishes to break down the idea that art must be serious to be taken seriously. Her practice is multi-disciplinary, combining traditional print processes with digital technologies, analog photography and installation, often employing collage and found images.

Tiarna Herczeg

A proud Kuku Yalanji/Murri woman, Herczeg is a student at Sydney’s National Art School and has this year exhibited her work as part of Airspace Projects’ Jana Bayan Buku Dungan Ngayu Bawajin and Point 5 Gallery’s To Tend To. She founded Kanami, an inclusive and safe platform for Aboriginal creatives that aims toconnect mob together in the redefining of what ‘Aboriginal art’ is.

Byne is a self-taught artist originally from Singapore. The work displays fabrications of the unexisting, drawing on mythological and religious themes to convey Byne’s own personal thoughts and subconscious that are a product of his religious upbringing and now atheist beliefs.

Lesley Wengembo

Born in Papua New Guinea, Wengembo’s work has recently focused on hyper-realistic portraiture, mainly capturing indigenous faces dressed in their traditional attire. He says, “as an indigenous artist, I try to capture an essence of what is still alive today that is expressed through their faces before it dies out.
