AN EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANY OTHER

Experiences for you to discover and immerse yourself in.

The Other Art Fair presents HUMAN, BUT MAKE IT ART

Human, But Make It Art celebrates the beautiful weirdness of being alive. It explores how we express identity, emotion, memory, and connection through rituals that feel part game, part confession, part magic trick. Across the fair, everyday human behaviors—talking, playing, remembering, posing, intuiting—are exaggerated, reimagined, and lovingly distorted through art.

The fair as a testing ground for humanity itself. Here, being human isn’t just welcomed—it’s the medium.

The Goodbye Line

A deeply human ritual—saying goodbye—elevated into collective artwork.

The Goodbye Line is a public art project that invites people to say the goodbyes they never got to say. Through a telephone line open 24/7, participants leave anonymous voicemails—some spoken through tears, others sung, poetic, or quietly spare. Together, these messages form a growing archive of human experience, offering space for emotions that are so often carried alone.

Step inside the telephone booth installation to leave your own goodbye or listen to recordings from the archive. Messages range from grief for a parent, pet, relationship, or former self, to moments of honoring strangers or simply speaking something true out loud.

The Faux-To Booth

A tongue-in-cheek take on portraiture and technology.

The Faux-To Booth uses cutting edge Human Intelligence (HI) to render expressive depictions of human subjects. The process is simple – buy a token, insert your coin into the slot, strike a pose, and within minutes the very manual “machine” spits out a one of a kind portrait.

Portraits are available all weekend long, priced at $12 for singles and $18 for duos, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Complimentary portraits Friday from 8-10pm.

Las Fotos Project

Young artists documenting and redefining what it looks like to be human right now.

Las Fotos Project‘s mission is to elevate the voices of teenage girls & gender-expansive youth from communities of color through photography and mentoring, empowering them to channel their creativity for the benefit of themselves, their community, and future careers.

Check out the exhibition of works by Las Fotos Project artists at the Fair. Your purchase will support their free programs in photography, career training, exhibitions, and community events.

PLAY IT FORWARD: The Other Art Fair x The Art of Ping Pong

Social behavior as sculpture. Proving that play is one of our most ancient and effective communication tools.

Play a round of ping pong on custom, artist-designed tables where art meets play—with purpose. Presented by The Other Art Fair and The Art of Ping Pong, these vibrant, functional works invite connection through conversation and friendly competition, while doubling as sculptural artworks. A donation to play, or a bid in the silent auction for your own artist-designed ping pong table, supports Altadena Brick by Brick, a local 501(c)(3) raising funds to rebuild homes west of Lake Ave in Altadena, turning every serve into a meaningful act of community support.

‘Thank You’ Installation

by Linus Gruszewski

Thank You is a monumental inflatable installation by French-Australian designer Linus Gruszewski, made from 1,500 re-used polyethylene take-out bags. Visitors are invited to step inside and explore its intricate geometric interior, where familiar materials are transformed into a glowing, immersive environment that is both playful and contemplative.

By reimagining the ubiquitous “thank you” bag, the work turns a symbol of convenience and waste into a field of color and light. As sunlight filters through the polyethylene, the bags take on a shimmering, oil-slick sheen, inviting reflection on consumption, reuse, and the unexpected beauty hidden in everyday objects.

Chulita Vinyl Club is made up of women, gender-non-conforming, non-binary, LGBTQ+ and self-identifying people of color. CVC launched in 2014, with the context of providing a safe space for empowerment, togetherness and to utilize music and vinyl as a form of resistance against the erasure of culture. Each Chulita identifies with their own identity. They are not to be classified as one nationality or culture. Within CVC they individually identify with the following: Latinxs, Tejanxs, Chicanxs, Xicanx, Afro-Latinx and many more. The unifying denominator is that they come together over the belief that EL DISCO ES CULTURA and they believe that it is worth preserving and perpetuating.

Marie-José

Marie-José is a contemporary visual artist based in Inglewood, California. Born in San Francisco in 1992, Marie has been exploring the multiplicity of the Black femme experience through painting, collage, and mixed media for over a decade. They employ surrealism as a tool for re-imagining the past and inspiring a previously indiscernible future and cite Rene Magritte, Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall, as well as their own Nigerian heritage as significant influences. Concepts for the work originate from an exploration of self combined with archival or cultural imagery. Defining their style as ‘Afro-Surrealistic’, Marie’s work reexamines the pre-conceived barriers of Black liberation.
