Interactive art experiences for you to discover and immerse yourself in.

‘100’ for 100 Fairs – By John Paine

John Paine is a cartoonist, animator & illustrator from Sydney, Australia, whose work is distinctive and always fun.  He’s been making and drawing since he could hold a pencil, and is always working on something new and exciting, whether it’s packaging designs, viral videos, a range of cool movie posters, or something completely different!

To celebrate The Other Art Fair’s milestone of reaching 100 Fairs globally, we’ve commissioned the super-talented illustrator and cartoonist John Paine to create 100 art-related drawings, which will make up an interactive mural at The Fair.

You’ll be able to pick out famous artworks, cultural moments and artists, and help John bring them to life at the Fair by colouring them in – perhaps you’ll colour Frida’s hair blue, or make sure a duct taped banana gets an accurate yellow, the choice is up to you!  At the end of the Fair, there will be a full-colour design, and a sense of how mischievous you were in your colour choices…

Choose your style from the two talented tattoo artists: Nah Mate Pokes and Ellpokes.

Nah Mate Pokes is a stick and poke artist from Sydney. His work ranges from crude hand-drawn childlike pieces to perfect, delicate, clean line work. The subject matter of his drawings can veer from familiar childhood characters who’ve taken a bizarre and dark turn to simple pieces that are cute, silly, and always recognizably nah mate.

Ellpokes is a Blue Mountains born, handpoked tattoo artist based in Dulwich Hill, Sydney. Her designs draw heavily from her fine art background in painting. While seeking to retain the handmade nature of stick and poke tattooing, Elle has a loose painterly style that ranges from abstract tile pieces to illustrative still lifes, florals, animals and figures.

They’ll be tattooing flash all four days of the Fair, with pieces starting from $150.  First in best tattooed!

New on the Scene

Art should never be elite.

The New Futures programme is part of our continued mission to break down traditional barriers of the contemporary art world by giving a space to talented, often underrepresented, emerging artists. Each recipient is given free exhibition space at The Other Art Fair along with access to networks and opportunities designed to jump-start their careers.

Jess Curran is an emerging multi-disciplinary artist with an interest in gender, health and refusing shame. Her practice merges textiles and painting processes as a means of exploring the self, zooming in on lived experiences of internal and external pain. With an interest in processes of beading, embroidery, sewing and painting, crafting is used as a means of mending self-perception and providing care and comfort to the self. Their practice investigates and refutes lived experiences of shame in a gendered body, specifically in regards to misguided and limited understandings of health. She questions how hand-made crafts can give visibility to invisible pain, challenge anti-fat attitudes and reclaim personal autonomy after
these discomforts.
