AN EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANY OTHER

Performances and experiences for you to discover and immerse yourself in.

Guest Artist: Judy Baca

“The 1968 East L.A. Student Walkouts,” a new section of the ongoing Great Wall Of Los Angeles

We are thrilled to announce Guest Artist, Judy Baca, who, along with the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) will present an all-new segment of her monumental mural, The Great Wall of Los Angeles, reproduced specially for exhibition at the Fair.

Measuring 10 feet tall and 22 feet wide, “The 1968 East L.A. Student Walkouts” depicts the historic stand Chicanx students took against systemic discrimination in education. Like all of Baca’s public art monuments, this mural reflects the interconnectedness of history, people, and place, emphasizing diverse struggles for rights and community ties to the memory of land.

The Other Art Fair is honored to host this mural at our new venue in Atwater Village, which is located very near to the Los Angeles River and the site of Baca’s most renowned work, The Great Wall of L.A. Ongoing since 1974, this half-mile mural in San Fernando Valley has engaged hundreds of youth and their families, artists, oral historians, and scholars, bringing impactful public art into the daily lives of Los Angeles communities.

“In the Land of Gods and Monsters” curated by Feia Studio’s Thomas Martinez Pilnik and Jake Cavallo

In the Land of Gods and Monsters, curated by Feia founders Thomas Martinez Pilnik and Jake Cavallo, is a two-person show featuring Kim Garcia and Josh Cabello that pinballs viewers through purgatory in between Heaven and Hell. Where you land is your choice, but deep within this constructed, twisted, and lush garden of evil are nods to queer utopias, Dionysian rituals, longing, life after near-death, post-colonial identities, vast ecosystems, and small pockets of grief, love, trauma, and new growth.

Feia is a design studio that celebrates failure, brings people together, and curates beautiful spaces with unconventional features. Feia, literally meaning Ugly in Portuguese (and in Spanish spelled Fea), is more than just an insult. It expresses curiosity, intrigue, excitement, novelty, beauty, disgust, and everything in between.

“Portal to Dreams” curated by artist Mary Lai

Artist Mary Lai curates “Portal to Dreams,” an installation dedicated to Los Angeles. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of Omikuji, visitors are welcome to enter and write down their dreams and tie it to a fence. This dreamy installation will include works from Richard Ankrom, Yoon Chang, and Mary Lai. Each piece has a compelling story and invites viewers to enjoy this moment of paradise that reminds us how resilient the Los Angeles creative community is and to keep dreaming.
