A Smarter Way to Buy Art
The Other Art Fair will be showcasing 100 of the best unsigned artists, giving you the opportunity to buy directly from the artists before they gain gallery representation. Each of the artists will have gone through a strict selection process and will have been selected based on their ability, potential and accessibility.
What is Contemporary Art?
The Other Art Fair is an Art Fair showcasing Contemporary Art. By definition, Contemporary Art is used as a term described for art that is made after World War II up until the present day.
Contemporary art is often about ideas and concerns, rather than solely the aesthetic.
Using various methods, a Contemporary Artist will explore various mediums in order to illustrate their ideas. This includes painting, photography, illustration, sculpture, light, sound, installation, new media, film and live performance plus many others.
Buying Tips:
The team at The Other Art Fair recommends the following tips when buying art:
- Buy what you like: We know it’s a cliché but buy art that you like and enjoy! Know yourself: are you a bright and bold kind of girl or a sculptural abstract sort of guy? Of course, we recommend that you listen to the advice of others, but it’s you that will gain the enjoyment from purchasing a piece. Remember buying art is very subjective! If your chosen piece increases in value then it’s a bonus, but if it doesn’t, then at least you have invested in something that enhances your environment.
- Pricing: To keep things easy all art work shown at The Other Art Fair will have price clearly displayed. The Other Art Fair is about bringing artists and buyers together in an unintimidating environment. You are purchasing directly from artists rather than through a gallery.
- Get Talking: What makes the Other Art Fair different is that the artists are there for you to talk to so make the most of it. Having a conversation with the artist gives you an insight into their work; how it was made, how long they have been working and what they are planning on doing next.
- Research: Take a look at the Artists Profiles here on the site. Check out their individual website’s as well to get a feel for their work.
- Take a Risk: The Other Art Fair is all about emerging and undiscovered artists so embrace the Fair’s spirit and take a risk on someone new. You never know what the future will hold!
Why the Other Art Fair?
Mila Askarova, our curator explains why as a Gallery owner she is supporting the Other Art Fair.
‘A gallery’s success comprises of and is based on a pool of exceptionally talented artists. An artists requires to some degree a support mechanism through which to showcase his works and therefore a mutually beneficial relationship is formed. There are various factors that influence the success of a talented artist, and being represented by or associated with a known gallery is one of them although artists often decide to take an independent route. Regardless of their chosen journey, talented artists – new and established – require a direct contact with their admirers, followers and clients. A gallery successfully bridging that gap has the artist’s interest at heart. A fair that allows artists to experience first hand feedback to their work, as well as providing credibility to these artists through a selection committee, is an inspiration both to creatives of the industry and the galleries. It is a great pleasure being associated with the Other Art Fair – a refreshing approach to the concept behind and the execution of an art fairs.’
