Nicola Anthony uses glass, paper, text and tactile materials in her drawings & sculptures. Her practice is inspired by mapping, collecting, deconstructing/reconstructing, as well as the structure and understanding of language. Her artworks are often created using many small cells or components which are collaged or constructed together to make organic & sometimes obsessive forms.

This year Nicola Anthony has exhibited in the Serpentine Gallery Project Space, as well as been featured in a museum show in LA, with further USA shows coming in Autumn. In the past she has received sponsorship from Tate Britain, and exhibited in Tate Modern’s ‘No Soul for Sale’.

Anthony’s recent “Rubik’s” artworks are glass & resin sculptures consisting of multiple transparent cubes, creating a shimmering whole. These are an exploration of time, chaos and order – deconstructing the ways in which we represent time in linear blocks such as a calendar form, the artist rebuilt the 2D structures we are accustomed to using shapes she has observed in crystals and in the randomness / order of a Rubik’s Cube. The individual cubes contain dates embedded inside the glass which line up to appear – only from one angle – as a hovering circle.

Her other featured works also explore the deconstruction and reconstruction of text, language, social structures and dates: In the artist's 'date stamp portraits' made by hand using ink on paper she uses notations of time to render a person "made of memories & moments", and in her 'Made of Money' Series in which she deconstructs currency to make a ‘re-mixed’ and fragmented dollar, aiming to raise questions of value, currency, and worth.

Nicola Anthony is a London based artist and art writer.
