In 2011 global fashion and lifestyle brand Club Monaco announced their partnership with The Other Art Fair, a new and unique Contemporary Art Fair in London. In recognition of the importance of nurturing new creative talent, Club Monaco supported the debut year of The Other Art Fair with a prize for the best emerging artist.

Beginning on 25 November 2011, The Other Art Fair provided an unprecedented platform for artists, collectors and gallerists to connect directly.  At The Bargehouse on Southbank, a carefully selected assemblage of 100 emerging artists had been chosen to display and sell work directly to the public.  The fair aimed to give unrepresented artists an exclusive opportunity to promote their work and ideas.

For the Emerging Artist Award, Club Monaco asked the public attending the event to vote for whom they think was the most promising artist at the fair. The shortlist of four artists resulting from the public vote was then put forward to a prestigious panel of industry figures appointed by Club Monaco and The Other Art Fair.  The successful artist chosen by the panel – Dan Hillier – won a £5,000 prize to build a body of work, which they own.  Club Monaco, however, will also exhibit the artist’s work in Club Monaco markets to provide further exposure and support to the artist.

Club Monaco is thrilled to have this opportunity to support new creative talent and invest into the UK art community.

Ann Watson, VP Marketing, Club Monaco, said:

“We are excited to support such an original initiative that gives young emerging artists a new platform of exposure and commerce. We hope to add extra value to The Other Art Fair’s vision with Club Monaco’s Emerging Artist Award. This partnership is a wonderful opportunity for Club Monaco to continue its efforts in supporting up-and-coming talented creatives in the arts.”

Ryan Stanier, Founder of The Other Art Fair, said:

“We are extremely proud to be hosting the Club Monaco Emerging Artist Award. It brings real gravitas to the fair and an incredible opportunity for the chosen artist. It’s our collective support and enthusiasm for emerging artists that makes this collaboration so exciting. I’m just glad I don’t have to choose the winning artist!”

This initiative is an excellent fit for the brand which is known for supporting the arts and working with creatives across a diverse cultural landscape.  At the very heart of this approach is the CM Culture Club, which is a visual collective of what culturally inspires the people behind the brand and features guest curators from the worlds of fashion, art, media and lifestyle.
